Charcoal, pencil, watercolor, thread, and paper are completely transformed into a bright, high-contrast, and compelling abstract artwork.
An upside-down triangle in the lower middle sprouts three thick black lines, separating the scene into three sections to help the eye take in the wealth of visual stimulus. Straight lines, broken lines, dots, circles with rings like Saturn, and curved lines, some like thorny rose stems, are all disconnected yet aligned. Barley touching yet flowing from one to another, the varied elements resemble a net or a roadmap.
Colors and contrast: primarily bright red, mustard yellow, and deep black make this collage cohesive and uniform. The main colors are shown in various transparencies and tones, and a pop of blue in the middle of the right edge add a pleasant break from the uniformity of the color scheme.

In creating this collage, Yee was inspired by the philosophy dissonance. The inharmoniousness, harshness, or cacophony of dimensions created by her various forms, colors, materials, and shapes create a liminality to this artwork. It is both a collage and a liminal space, a transition between two locations or states of being.
What junction of mindsets, perspectives, phases of life, or locations does this collage put you in? Should we stay in a liminal space with joy, or move on into a particular direction with haste?
