“Growing up, I heard many tales of my grandmother’s life, before she was known as Mimo, and each narrative she told stuck with me and still impacts my thinking to this day. I wanted to celebrate Mimo’s wisdom and character, as well as capture the extraordinary within the ordinary. Hopefully I can inspire others to reflect on their own relationships with their elders and the untold stories that shaped their lives.”

Originally from Hong Kong and currently living in New Jersey, Sau Chun shares and reflects upon stories from her life as she goes about her everyday activities — from preparing freshly made wontons to playing mahjong.
Lola captures her Mimo’s insightful thoughts about her past as well as her present state of happiness and inner tranquility in Mimo: Sau Chun’s Story. The documentary is filmed from Sau Chun’s perspective as she recalls events from her childhood up until now, as a grandmother to two grandchildren.

Lola Ellis is a Sophomore in the Class of 2026, majoring in Political Science and Film Studies.
